Recommendations for Change
- # 111 |
|
Youth is defined as a rider who is eighteen years and younger on January 1 of the calendar year of the show. A Youth must be in control of the animal he/she is handling at all times. The judge should and will excuse any entry that is not in control of his/her mule. No youth may show a jack in any event. Any mule or donkey exhibited in youth events must be owned solely by the contestant or by the contestant’s immediate family. Leased and co-owned (other than immediate family co-owners) mules and donkeys are ineligible. |

Justification and impact if rule is not changed |
It is unfair for an unrelated person at a show to provide a highly trained animal to compete with a youth, who with their family, cares for and rides their own mule or donkey. It would encourage a more equal level of competition, and help keep all youth competing into adulthood. This is the same standard other equine organizations use.
Impact if rule is not changed
This unfair practice will continue to discourage youth participation and membership in NASMA. |
